UK farmers, agricultural and farm businesses are challenged with rising overheads, significantly affecting their profitability. With high energy consumption required for farm processes such as dairy units, feeding systems, poultry housing, grain stores, refrigeration and machinery, many farms are looking for ways to diversify and replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. Additionally, farmers can utilise existing land or roof space to benefit from energy export contracts that align with their energy production and consumption patterns.

Noble Green Energy Solar PV solutions can help reduce your energy costs, protect against market volatility and meet your sustainability goals – with options tailored to your business and budget.

Why Solar PV is Right for Farms and Agricultural Businesses

  • Government support – Farmers can benefit from grants, subsidies, or tax breaks for renewable energy installations.
  • Energy cost stability –Lock in predictable energy costs and reduce exposure to market volatility.
  • Reliable power in rural areas – Solar PV systems can maintain a more stable energy supply.
  • Reduce power downtime – Solar energy reduces the risk of grid outages, ensuring critical operations like milking, feeding systems, and heating continue uninterrupted.
  • Attractive export contracts – align your energy production and consumption patterns, excess solar energy can be sold back to the grid for a secondary revenue stream.
  • Maximise large fields or roof spaces –Choose ground-mounted or roof-mounted solar PV installations to make the best use of your available space.
  • Utilise underperforming arable land –Ground-mounted solar PV installations transform less productive land into a valuable asset, offsetting energy costs and potentially generating additional income.
  • Easily scalable systems – Start small and expand your solar setup as your needs grow or seamlessly add to an existing installation.
  • Confident cost forecasting – Safeguard against rising energy costs and future supply chain disruptions.

The annual ROI for commercial solar PV is around 25-35%. The greater your electricity costs, the faster the payback of installing a solar panel system.

The 200-300% average increase in electricity costs imported from the grid is one of the main reasons paybacks are much faster than it was previously.

Finance options such as Asset Finance, Hire Purchase or Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) are available to remove the necessity for capital expenditure, leaving the cash available within the business. FIND OUT MORE

    Featured Case Study

The Noble Group were looking to cut carbon and energy costs at their North Scarle site.

Noble Green Energy designed and built this array to supplement existing PV. The designer considered the high flood water levels of the site and procured a bespoke mounting system to address this.

All energy produced by this 370kW system is consumed on site. Total site capacity now stands at 520kW. Site generation is expected to be in excess of 416,000 kWh per year, saving over 200 tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to around 74,000 HGV road-miles or planting over 9,400 trees.
